East Midlands Railway reminds passengers to only use public transport if essential

  • New timetable introduced today, Monday 18th May
  • New social distancing measures are in place at stations and on trains
  • Passengers who must use public transport should wear face coverings

Note to media: East Midlands Railway will be offering face-to-face interviews at Nottingham railway station at 09.30 on Monday, 18th May. If you would like to attend, please email the media team (contact details below) in advance.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has increased its timetable and introduced new social distancing measures.

Overall, the changes provide an increase in service level of approximately 20 % - meaning EMR is now operating at around 80% of its ‘normal’ or ‘full’ timetable. This timetable will remain in place until further notice and will be kept under constant review.

Passengers should continue to follow Government travel advice and only travel by public transport if it is absolutely necessary. Passengers who do need to travel by train should check their journey before leaving, allow extra time to pass through the station, use contactless payment and, if at all possible, travel at quieter times of the day.

New social distancing measures and information are in place and passengers are asked to wear face coverings and maintain a safe and sensible distance from one another and staff.

Will Rogers, Managing Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “From today we will be increasing our services, however the new timetable will only allow a small rise in the number of passengers we can accommodate.

“We urge everyone to only go by train if it is necessary and keep public transport for key workers and those who must travel.

“To help people who must travel, we will be providing extra information and guidance at all 91 of our stations and on our trains. Our passengers also have an important role to play and I urge them to follow government guidance, wear a face covering and be mindful of each other and maintain a safe and sensible distance.

"Please do not hesitate to ask any of our staff if you have any questions about the changes – they will be happy to help.”
