East Midlands Railway sponsors two ‘Imps’ as part of an Educational Trail in Lincoln

  • Designed by local schoolchildren, the Imps will be displayed across Lincoln this summer
  • EMR delivered a rail safety assembly to local school taking part which inspired their ‘Safety’ Imp
  • The two Imps will join the other 48 sculptures as part of the Educational Trail

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has sponsored two Imps as part of The Education Business Partnership (EBP) Imp Educational Trail.

Lincoln Christ Hospital School Year 10 pupils created a safety themed Imp following an EMR rail safety assembly to support their learning. EMR is continuing to work with the school on further artwork alongside the North Notts and Lincolnshire Community Rail Partnership.

De Aston School, in Market Rasen, ran a school wide competition in lockdown to come up with a design and they amalgamated three students work into one design – themed around Steam Punk. Its Imp is called Edward Michael Rodgers and the students range across two-year groups.

The Education Programme is part of the wider Lincoln Imp Trail of 30 sculptures, which launches on 3rd July, the sculptures will be on display across the city of Lincoln this summer, creating a fun, family-friendly art trail.

The sculptures are inspired by the stone imp figure located in Lincoln Cathedral, which has become a symbol of the city.

Kaye Robinson, Community Ambassador for EMR, took the educational Imps along to Lincoln station earlier this month to showcase them to passengers , she said: “‘It has been really great working with the local schools in Lincoln and Market Rasen, the designs they have come up with are fantastic and I can’t wait to see them in the trail this summer.

“Being able to teach the students about rail safety is of vital importance and I love how they have adapted their learning to an Imp.”

Matthew McKeown, Head of Commercial Services, for The EBP said: "We are delighted to be the education partner for the Lincoln IMP Trail and have been thrilled to work with so many Lincolnshire schools on this unique project celebrating our city’s mischievous mascot.”
