East Midlands Railway (EMR) has created a free activity book for primary school children to help teach them to stay safe while they are near the railway.

The book, which can be downloaded from EMR's website here, is full of puzzles, activities, and lots of other fun things.

Members of EMR's Community Rail team, in partnership with Rail Safe Friendly, will be sharing the activity book with schools across the East Midlands.

In addition to the booklet, EMR is also teaming up with Rail Safe Friendly to offer workshops to schools, and it has produced a new pamphlet about rail safety for adults.

Kaye Robinson, Community Engagement Manager at East Midlands Railway, said: "Ensuring children understand the dangers of playing on or near the railway is something we take incredibly seriously.

"We know that by communicating these messages early, it leaves a lasting impact on children, and we hope this new activity book is a useful resource for teachers and others who want to discuss these issues with pupils.

"Likewise, it's always useful for adults to educate themselves on railway dangers too. Trespassing is illegal and could result in life-changing injuries or worse. There are many hidden dangers, including overhead power lines, from which 25,000 volts of electricity can jump if you get too close."
