EMR team take on 24-mile walk to raise funds for charity that works to prevent violence against women and girls

  • EMR team to complete a 24-mile charity walk from Derby to Matlock on 18 April in support of White Ribbon
  • Fundraising effort aims to help end violence against women and girls and challenge harmful behaviours
  • Walk also focuses on raising awareness, promoting allyship, and encouraging a culture of respect and equality

A team from East Midlands Railway (EMR) are taking on a 24-mile charity walk this month to raise money for White Ribbon, an organisation dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.

Organised by EMR’s Women’s Employee Network, Balance, the walk between Derby and Matlock, will raise vital funds for White Ribbon.

The walk, which takes place on Saturday 18 April begins at Derby railway station, will follow a path along the Derwent Valley Railway Line, all the way up to Matlock where the group hope to complete the 24-mile walk in the early evening.

Sophie Page, Campaigns and Policy Manager for White Ribbon said: "It’s great to see employees from East Midlands Railway come together to take on a 24-mile fundraising challenge, using their platform as a White Ribbon Accredited Organisation to raise both funds and awareness.

"We’re really pleased to see the transport industry supporting communities and working towards creating environments where everyone feels safe and respected. We hope this inspires others to get involved and make a difference."

The event is not just about raising money – it’s also about raising awareness to end violence against women and girls.

Charlotte Bishop, Internal Communications Business Partner at EMR and lead of the Women's Employee Network, said: “This walk means so much to us. It’s about promoting respect, equality and a culture free from violence.

“It’s about having honest conversations, speaking up when something isn’t right, and encouraging men to get involved by showing what being a good ally looks like in everyday life.

“We're really proud to raise vital funds for White Ribbon and support their mission to end violence against women and girls.”
