World Car Free Day: EMR launches new tourism map for greener days out

East Midlands Railway (EMR), in partnership with the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), has launched a new tourism map helping visitors discover some of the region’s best days out by rail and bus.

Whether it’s a family day out, a trip with friends or a chance to explore somewhere new, the map brings together key attractions across the East Midlands and shows how they can be reached using public transport – making it easier to leave the car at home.

From cultural and historic attractions to outdoor adventures and local experiences, the map highlights rail and bus connections to destinations across the region, helping people plan a more sustainable day out.

Those planning their next adventure should visit the EMR website to download the map and start exploring.

The initiative forms part of EMR and EMCCA’s work to encourage more people to consider public transport for leisure journeys, while supporting local destinations and the wider visitor economy.

EMR, which is operated by Transport UK, is also working with other combined authorities in the regions it serves to see if similar maps can be created.

“Whether you’re looking for a day out with the family, somewhere new o visit with friends or simply want to explore more of our region, there are great destinations accessible by rail and bus. We hope the map inspires people to try something different, leave the car at home and make their next adventure a public transport one.”

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: “From Creswell Crags in north Nottinghamshire to Sudbury Hall in south Derbyshire, there are so many brilliant places to visit across our region, and many of them are easy to get to by public transport.

“This new map makes it easier to see where you can go by bus, rail and tram, whether you’re planning a family day out, a weekend away or just fancy exploring somewhere you haven’t been before. It’s a really useful guide for discovering more of the East Midlands without having to get in the car.

“It also brings together some of our much-loved local railways, including Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Peak Rail, with the wider network. We’re delighted to be working with East Midlands Railway on this and helping more people discover the fantastic places we have right on our doorstep.”

The map is available to pick up from participating EMR stations, or download online via the EMR website.
