EMR receives White Ribbon UK accreditation for commitment to ending violence against women
- EMR awarded White Ribbon UK accreditation
- The operator will deliver an action plan over the next three years to embed the charity’s values
East Midlands Railway (EMR) has been awarded White Ribbon UK accreditation for its commitment to working towards ending violence against women and girls.
The operator has achieved the accreditation from White Ribbon UK – the country's leading charity that engages men and boys to end gender inequality and aggression against females by addressing its root causes and long-established attitudes in society.
To gain accreditation, EMR has demonstrated its commitment to developing and delivering a transformative action plan over the next three years. This will involve recruiting champions and ambassadors throughout its workforce.
As an accredited organisation, EMR will also continue to embed the charity’s values into its business - including driving cultural change by engaging men and boys, promoting equality, and raising awareness.
Philippa Cresswell, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Railway, said: "This is an important step for EMR and a clear signal that we are committed to encouraging our staff to be positive role models.
"We are committed to helping change long-established attitudes, behaviours, and systems around masculinity that perpetuate gender inequality and men’s violence against women. This isn't a box-ticking exercise but is backed up by a detailed action plan that the business will regularly measure itself against."
Anthea Sully, Chief Executive at White Ribbon UK, said: "White Ribbon accredited organisations like EMR can make a real difference in ending violence against women by promoting a culture of respect and equality among their staff and wider communities.
"By raising awareness among employees, people can learn how to become allies and call out violent and abusive behaviour when they see it.
"We are delighted to welcome EMR as one of our White Ribbon accredited organisations and look forward to working with them to end violence against women once and for all."
