Exciting opportunity at Derby station as prime retail unit becomes available

  • An opportunity to set up a new business at Derby station has become available.
  • The new unit would be ideal for grab-and-go businesses, such as pastry, drinks or sandwich retailers.
  • The unit is in a prominent position on the main concourse.
  • The new space provides an opportunity to serve the station’s 4.1 million-plus annual customers.

A new retail opportunity is available at Derby station, offering operators the chance to establish a presence in one of the East Midlands’ busiest railway stations.

The 38 sq m retail kiosk unit is being made available in a prominent position within the busy concourse, providing an opportunity for businesses to introduce a distinctive retail offer to the station’s 4.1 million-plus annual passengers.

Located directly opposite the station ticket office, the space would suit a wide range of businesses, with pastry, sandwich and drinks retailers among the potential operators.

The space is currently used to house three ATM cash machines and is being repurposed to create a new retail opportunity. A new cash machine will be installed to ensure customers do not lose the ability to access cash.

The unit will benefit from electricity, drainage and water supplies, with the incoming tenant responsible for installing their own frontage and shop fit-out.

Simon Pready, Commercial Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “This new kiosk is a really exciting opportunity to bring something fresh to the retail offer at the station. It’s in a great location, directly opposite the ticket office, and would be ideal for a business selling things like sandwiches, pastries, smoothies and other grab-and-go options.

“Derby is a busy transport hub with a strong local workforce, as well as plenty of leisure and sporting attractions nearby. We think this is a fantastic opportunity for the right business to make its mark at one of our busiest stations.”

The station is well placed for visitors attending nearby sporting and leisure attractions, including Derby County Football Club and Derby Arena Velodrome.

Derby is an important transport hub serving passengers travelling north and south, as well as cross-country, with major employers in the city including East Midlands Railway, Rolls-Royce and Severn Trent.

The opportunity is being marketed by Advance Ventures on behalf of Transport UK.
