Railway staff take part in a sponsored sleep-out to help runaway children
- Rail industry staff sleeping in Derby station tonight
- All to raise money for Railway Children charity
Railway staff will be sleeping in Derby railway station tonight (30th January 2020) to help support runaway children.
Around 40 people, from East Midlands Railway, Network Rail and the national Railway Children Charity are teaming up to raise money and awareness for the work being done to help the thousands of children who run away from home every year.
Jason Cocker, East Midlands Railway Area Manager for Derbyshire, said: “Railway staff can play a really important role in helping to look after children and young people who are facing a tough time and may be looking to run away or otherwise put themselves in danger.
“I’m really determined to do whatever we can to help these young people as well as raising money and awareness for the excellent work The Railway Children do for young people across the UK and abroad.
“It probably won’t be the most comfortable night sleep for those taking part but it’s for a fantastic cause and I am grateful for all the support from colleagues across the rail industry.”
