Epic days out by train: Grimsby children's drawings to star on ITV

  • School children from Grimsby will see their drawings on television after they were chosen for an EMR advert
  • Children from Yarborough Academy’s Oak Class were asked to draw Miles – EMR’s mascot – going on an epic day
  • Advert highlights offers available to families - including kids under five travelling for free

A group of schoolchildren from Grimsby will be able to see their drawings on television after they worked with East Midlands Railway (EMR) on its latest advert.

The children from Yarborough Academy’s Oak Class were asked to draw Miles – EMR’s mascot – going on an epic day out, so the operator could feature some of their ideas to highlight the great deals available for families.

The seven and eight-year-olds did not let EMR down!

Their drawings of dinosaurs, robots, rainbows, moving buildings and unicorns all feature in the advert – which is out now. The advert is appearing on ITV, as well as online, including on Disney+.

Watch it below:

Teacher Melissa Damms said: “Working on this project with EMR has been an amazing opportunity for the children. They have been so enthusiastic about everything and talk about it all the time in the classroom. The team have been fantastic every step of the way.”

Pupil Deryn said: “It has been exciting and really fun. Our favourite parts were when we got to see the advert and when we were drawing pictures of the trains. I took mine home with me and it's on my wall.”

Naeim said: “I enjoyed learning about rail safety and the level crossings. I knew a lot of information about the level crossings. I’ve built a level crossing at my house. We are excited for the train journey in summer.

“I showed Mummy the London advert that we saw. Every year we go on the EMR to Barton – I love going on their trains. The ladies were all so kind and nice and sweet. They made it really fun.”

Jenna Cowie, Interim Commercial Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “The children from Yarborough Academy completely wowed us with their brilliant imaginations – from dinosaurs to unicorns and everything in between!

“Their creativity really shows how magical a day out by train can be. Plus, with kids under five travelling for free and 5–15-year-olds getting half-price tickets, it’s never been easier (or more fun) for families to set off on their own adventures. A huge thank you to all the pupils and staff at Yarborough Academy – you’re all stars, and we hope they find it exciting to see their drawings brought to life on TV.”
